Core values are like the bumpers bowling alleys use from time to time when kids are bowling to keep the ball from going into the gutter. Core values keep us from throwing gutter balls. They keep us focused on the vision and moving forward. They are the litmus test for everything we do and anything we’re thinking about doing. Can we answer “yes” to all our Core Values concerning those things? Is it life-giving? Is it Christ-centered & Spirit Empowered? Can we build a team to do it and can it be done in excellence? Will it be engaging to our entire community? Will it be fun?
Life-giving: John 6:68 “…LORD to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” We believe Christianity is not adherence to rules & regulations but a deep & meaningful relationship with the giver of life – Jesus Christ. As believers are discipled and mature in their faith their lives should become the perfect image of the cross, genuine relationship with Christ (vertical) and genuine relationships with one another (horizontal).
Christ-centered: Acts 17:28 “for in Him we live move and have our being…” It’s all about Jesus! Without Him we are nothing and can do nothing, but with Him all things are possible.
Spirit-empowered: Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…” We MUST have the presence of the Holy Spirit in all that we do; He is our “Helper” according to John 14:26. Without His driving influence our celebrations will become nothing more than social or motivational meetings, but with Him miracles become the norm.
Team Ministry: Ephesians 4:16 “from whom (Christ) the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” We are called to “do life together” at NDC we believe we are better as a community of believers when we live out this scriptural mandate. Real discipleship and real growth happens as we work together to extend His Kingdom. Our foundational small groups are the Dream Team-ministry teams who make it happen each week at NDC. “Team work makes the dream work”.
Ministry of Excellence: Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men…It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.” Excellence is not perfection. Excellence is giving your best to the One who gave His best for you. Excellence is a pursuit not a destination. As we pursue excellence we demonstrate to the world the value we place on our relationship with Christ.
Ministry of Diversity: Mark 11:17 And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’ (ethnicities)? “The most segregated time in America is ten o’clock Sunday morning” this quote has been attributed to both Billy Graham & Dr. M.L. King, Jr. We believe it is the intent of Christ for us (His Church) to do here on earth what we are going to do for eternity; live & worship together in the spirit of unity and harmony. NDC is committed to fulfilling the mandate of Christ for an ethnically diverse worship experience.
Have Fun: Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord”. Church planting is hard work. Ministry done in excellence is hard work. But it should be fun. We should enjoy being around each other, working together as partners with the Lord. If we notice we are not having fun, we should pause and find out why, get it corrected and move forward.
